Newton Fund: China-UK research and innovation bridges
Overview
Innovate UK, the Research Councils UK (RCUK) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) of the People?s Republic of China are to invest up to £16 million in collaborative industrial research and development projects to stimulate innovation in response to societal challenges that China faces.
The scope is focused on finding new commercial solutions to challenges that China is facing within the areas of agri-food, energy, healthcare, and urbanisation ? these solutions emerging through the translation of existing, excellent research. The competition will support projects that bring together businesses, academic and other research organisations, public sector bodies and other organisations from China and the UK to collaborate on the development of innovative products, processes or services.
Projects will last up to 24 months and up to £16 million will be made available under the competition (up to £8m from Innovate UK and RCUK to UK participants and up to £8m from MoST to Chinese participants). Total eligible project costs on each side of the application (i.e. UK and China) to be between £800,000 and £1 million.
ICUK?s role on these projects
ICUK supported QMUL academics on their applications e.g. agreement drafting, providing guidance on impact cases drafting and more. Two projects were granted with our support during the application stage, which we will continue to support these projects throughout the whole project life cycle. For project 1, we are leading on market analysis. On top of that, we are leading on the project outcome dissemination and technology exploitation for project 2.
